Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has emerged as the successful bidder for the development of the WR-ER Inter-Regional Network Expansion Scheme Part-A, a major interstate transmission infrastructure project aimed at strengthening power connectivity between regions.
The project will be implemented on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis. POWERGRID received the Letter of Intent (LoI) for the project on June 16, 2026.
The transmission scheme involves the establishment of two new 765/400 kV substations in the states of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, respectively. These facilities are expected to enhance grid reliability and support the growing power demand across the region.
In addition, the project includes the extension of existing substations in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. The scope also covers the construction of 765 kV and 400 kV transmission lines traversing through Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha, further strengthening the inter-regional transmission network.
The expansion project is designed to improve power transfer capability, facilitate efficient evacuation of electricity, and support the integration of future generation capacity across the eastern and western regions of the country.
With this project, POWERGRID continues to play a key role in developing India’s transmission infrastructure and enhancing the resilience of the national power grid.
