NHPC Signs Agreement with Arunachal Pradesh Government for 3,097 MW Etalin Hydroelectric Project

NHPC Limited has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for the implementation of the Etalin Hydroelectric Project (HEP) with a planned capacity of 3,097 MW.

Under the agreement, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh has granted NHPC permission to undertake preliminary investigations and detailed studies required for the preparation of project reports and development plans. The company will be responsible for financing, development, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of the project.

The Etalin Hydroelectric Project will be developed on the Dri and Tangon rivers in the Dibang Basin of Arunachal Pradesh. The project is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the region’s hydroelectric power generation capacity and supporting India’s clean energy objectives.

NHPC will implement the project under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model. The agreement provides for a lease period of 40 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD).

The project will be developed as a run-of-the-river hydroelectric scheme in accordance with the hydropower development framework of the State of Arunachal Pradesh.

The signing of the agreement marks an important step toward advancing one of the country’s largest hydropower projects and reinforces NHPC’s commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure in the Northeast region.
