SJVN Limited is scheduled to achieve commercial operation of Unit-II of its 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project in Bihar on September 12, 2026, strengthening the company’s contribution to India’s power generation capacity.
SJVN Limited, through its wholly owned subsidiary SJVN Thermal Private Limited, is scheduled to commence the commercial operation of Unit-II, with a capacity of 660 MW, of the 1,320 MW (2×660 MW) Buxar Thermal Power Project on September 12, 2026.
The development marks a significant milestone for SJVN as the company continues to expand its power generation capacity. The commercial operation has been disclosed by the company in compliance with Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
Located at Chausa in Buxar district of Bihar, the Buxar Thermal Power Project is being implemented by SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Limited.
The project comprises two units of 660 MW each and is equipped with supercritical technology, which is designed to provide higher efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
Once operational, the 1,320 MW project is expected to generate 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually. Of the total power generated, 85% has been allocated to Bihar under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
The project is expected to substantially improve power availability across Bihar and the Eastern Region. According to SJVN, the additional generation capacity will help reduce peak-hour power shortages while contributing to enhanced energy security.
The commercial operation of Unit-II follows the development of the Buxar project as an important addition to SJVN’s generation portfolio and is expected to support the growing electricity requirements of Bihar and the wider Eastern Region.
