Powering Industrial Growth and the Energy Transition: Electrotherm’s Transformer Excellence

As industries worldwide pursue greater efficiency, reliability, and sustainability, the demand for advanced power infrastructure continues to accelerate. At the forefront of this transformation is Electrotherm (India) Limited, one of India’s leading capital engineering equipment manufacturers, with installations across 77 countries and a workforce of more than 6,500 professionals.

Electrotherm’s Transformer Division has emerged as a trusted partner for utilities, industrial plants, renewable energy developers, and infrastructure projects. Operating from state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities at Palodia, Ahmedabad, and Karjan, Vadodara, the division has an annual manufacturing capacity of 6,000 MVA, serving both domestic and international markets.

Driven by a philosophy of customer-centric innovation, Electrotherm combines decades of engineering expertise with deep industry knowledge gained through supplying equipment to steel plants and other demanding industrial sectors. This understanding of critical power requirements enables the company to design and manufacture transformer solutions that deliver exceptional performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.

The division’s comprehensive product portfolio includes power transformers up to 120 MVA, 220 kV; distribution transformers up to 5 MVA, 33 kV; Inverter duty transformers up to 17.6 MVA; converter transformers up to 40 MVA for induction furnace and variable frequency drive applications; arc furnace transformers; locomotive transformers; and a wide range of special-purpose transformers, including rolling mill, grounding, booster, windmill, isolation, and Scott-T transformers. Electrotherm also manufactures compact substations up to 3.15 MVA, 33 kV, offering integrated power distribution solutions for diverse applications.

A major growth area for Electrotherm is the renewable energy and energy storage sector. With  global investments in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) accelerating, the company has established itself as a reliable supplier of highcapacity Inverter Duty Transformers (IDTs) for utilityscale renewable energy projects. Electrotherm has successfully supplied transformer solutions for renewable energy and energy storage installations exceeding 7 GW, highlighting its expanding role in the clean energy ecosystem.

Among its notable achievements is the supply of high-rating Inverter Duty Transformers of 16 MVA for 300 MW BESS projects. These transformers demonstrate Electrotherm’s capability to support large-scale renewable integration, grid stability, and energy transition initiatives. Designed specifically for inverter-based applications, these transformers provide high efficiency, enhanced reliability, and long-term operational performance

Quality and performance remain central to Electrotherm’s manufacturing philosophy. The Transformer Division is equipped with advanced in-house testing facilities capable of conducting Lightning Impulse Tests, Partial Discharge Tests, Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA), Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA), Capacitance and Tan Delta Tests, No-Load Harmonic Analysis, and Temperature Rise Tests. These capabilities ensure that each transformer meets stringent national and international quality requirements before dispatch.

As the global energy landscape evolves toward cleaner, smarter, and more resilient power systems, Electrotherm continues to invest in technology, manufacturing excellence, and engineering innovation. With a strong foundation in industrial power applications and a growing presence in renewable energy and energy storage, the company is well-positioned to contribute to the next generation of energy infrastructure.

By combining technical expertise, robust manufacturing capabilities, and an unwavering commitment to quality, Electrotherm’s Transformer Division continues to power industries, strengthen electrical networks, and support the world’s transition toward a more sustainable energy future.
