Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process for establishing the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) associated with the proposed Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia projects in the Kakinada region of Andhra Pradesh.
The company received the Letter of Intent (LoI) for the project on June 12, 2026, according to a regulatory filing submitted to the stock exchanges.
The project, titled “Transmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen / Green Ammonia Projects in Kakinada Area (Phase-I),” will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis. The transmission infrastructure is intended to support the evacuation and integration of power required for the upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia developments in the region.
As part of the project scope, POWERGRID will establish a new 765/400 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS), along with a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) and associated 765 kV transmission line infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.
The award further strengthens POWERGRID’s role in developing critical transmission infrastructure required to support India’s expanding renewable energy ecosystem and emerging green hydrogen sector.
