Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated India’s commitment to expanding non-fossil energy capacity, outlining plans to add 500 GW of additional non-fossil capacity and strengthen the country’s power transmission network.
Speaking at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 here, he said India had already achieved more than 50% non-fossil installed power capacity, fulfilling its Paris climate commitment five years ahead of schedule.
The government is also looking at investments of approximately Rs 2 lakh crore to strengthen transmission infrastructure.
The expansion is expected to create opportunities across the electrical equipment value chain, particularly in transmission lines, substations, transformers, cables and grid-integration technologies.
The four-day summit, running until 5 November, has participation from more than 130 countries.
