Salasar Techno Engineering Limited, a procurement and construction (EPC) in India’s power transmission and infrastructure sector, is executing a prestigious INR 134.51 crore 110 kV Air Insulated Substation (AIS) Package SS-154 from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID).
The project will be executed under POWERGRID’s consultancy services to the Electricity Department, Puducherry (PED), and spans multiple locations across the Union Territory.
The project covers the design, engineering, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of two new 110/22 kV substations at Thirubuvanai and Thavalakuppam. It also includes the shifting of released transformers from the Thirubuvanai substation to the Thethampakkam and Kalapet substations, along with their erection, testing and commissioning, as well as augmentation works at the existing 110/22 kV Villianur substation.
In addition, Salasar will supply five 25 MVA, 110/22 kV outdoor power transformers, together adding 125 MVA of transformation capacity to the regional grid. Once operational, the interconnection of substations under the project will create a grid pooling effect, strengthening supply reliability and resilience across Puducherry.
The project sits within the Union Territory’s Smart City Mission and is expected to deliver a direct improvement in power quality for consumers across Thavalakuppam, Thirubuvanai, Thethampakkam, Kalapet and Villianur in Puducherry, while supporting future load growth driven by urbanisation and economic development in the region. By redeploying released transformers rather than retiring them, the project also ensures efficient use of existing grid assets.
“Delivering this multi-site 110 kV substation package for POWERGRID is another important step in deepening Salasar’s presence in Puducherry and strengthening our credentials in high-voltage transmission and distribution infrastructure,” said Shashank Agarwal, Managing Director, Salasar Techno Engineering Limited. “This project goes beyond adding new capacity. By interconnecting substations and redeploying released transformers, we are helping build a more resilient, efficient and future-ready grid for the Union Territory. Our integrated EPC execution model and strong focus on quality, safety and timely delivery position us well to deliver these mission-critical assets in line with Puducherry’s Smart City vision.”
The project further reinforces Salasar Techno Engineering Limited’s role as a partner in developing resilient and future-ready power transmission and distribution infrastructure, supporting India’s long-term energy security objectives and economic growth.
