NHPC has successfully completed the test synchronization of Unit-1 and Unit-2 of the 510 MW Teesta-V Power Station in Sikkim with the national grid on July 12, 2026. Following the successful synchronization, commercial electricity generation from both units, each with a capacity of 170 MW, resumed at 5:00 PM on July 13, 2026.
The restart marks a significant milestone in the restoration and recommissioning efforts at the hydropower station, reinforcing NHPC’s commitment to strengthening the country’s clean energy infrastructure and ensuring reliable power supply.
Earlier, on July 11, 2026, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, Shri Diwakar Nath Mishra, along with NHPC Chairman and Managing Director Shri Bhupendra Gupta, inaugurated the newly constructed Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) at the Teesta-V Power Station.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Director (Projects) Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Technical) Shri Suprakash Adhikari, Chief of Teesta-V Power Station and Executive Director Shri Jitendra Kumar, Executive Director, NHPC NER, Siliguri Shri Sudhir Kumar Yadav, Executive Director (Operation & Maintenance) Shri Indradev Prasad Ranjan, Executive Director (PMSGY) Shri Umesh Kumar Nand, and other senior NHPC officials.
During the visit, Shri Bhupendra Gupta reviewed the ongoing restoration activities and appreciated the progress achieved at the Teesta-V Power Station. He directed the project team to complete the remaining works within the stipulated timeframe and expedite the recommissioning of the remaining unit of the power station.
Emphasizing the importance of operational excellence, he urged the team to uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance throughout the restoration process. Shri Gupta expressed confidence that the Teesta-V Power Station would continue to make a significant contribution to clean, green, and reliable hydroelectric power generation while delivering strong operational performance in the years ahead.
