Dr. Sumit Pundhir, Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Connectwell Industries Pvt. Ltd.

1. Please give us an overview of Connectwell Industries Pvt. Ltd. and your journey in the electrical and industrial products market.

Connectwell’s journey is, in many ways, a journey of building trust through engineering, quality and consistency.

Over the years, the company has evolved from being a manufacturer of electrical connection products to developing a much broader portfolio around Connection Technology, Interface Solutions and Cable Management Systems.

What has remained constant is our focus on understanding what the industry needs and building the capability to deliver products that perform reliably in real operating environments.

My own journey with Connectwell has reinforced an important belief: business is ultimately about people, relationships and the value we create for customers. Products are important, but the credibility behind those products is what builds a lasting business.

The electrical and industrial landscape is changing rapidly. Customers today expect not just a component, but quality, reliability, availability, technical support and application understanding.

That has also changed the way we look at growth.

For us, growth is not simply about adding products or entering markets. It is about continuously strengthening our people, processes, products and technology so that we can remain relevant to the customer as the customer’s world changes.

2. You have been closely involved in Connectwell’s growth and market development. What has been your role in shaping the company’s business and market direction, and how do you see your contribution evolving in the years ahead?

My role has increasingly been about connecting the market opportunity with the capability of the organisation.

I have always believed that growth does not happen because of one function or one individual. It happens when people, market understanding, product capability, technology and execution come together.

My focus has therefore been on strengthening our market orientation—understanding where the industry is heading, identifying emerging applications, building stronger customer engagement and ensuring that our product and application capabilities remain aligned with those requirements.

At the same time, I believe strongly in building an organisation that does not depend on individuals. Leadership is not about becoming indispensable; it is about making the organisation stronger and more capable.

As Connectwell enters its next phase of growth, my contribution will increasingly be about helping build that larger organisational capability—developing people, strengthening markets, encouraging innovation and creating a culture where accountability and ownership become part of everyday behaviour.

I see my role facilitator who ensures that Connectwell thinks bigger without losing the discipline and values that have brought us here.

Ultimately, the ambition is not just to grow the business, but to build an organisation that can sustain growth across generations.

3. What are the key products and solutions offered by Connectwell, and which product categories are currently seeing the highest demand?

Connectwell’s portfolio is built around three core areas: Connection Technology, Interface Solutions and Cable Management Systems.

What is particularly encouraging is that all three businesses are experiencing strong market demand. Interface Solutions, in particular, is witnessing almost 100% growth, while Connection Technology continues to see a very strong market pull.

This growth is being driven by increasing requirements across industrial automation, data centres, conventional power infrastructure, renewable energy, rail transportation, EVs, control panels, building automation and process industries.

At the same time, our thinking is moving beyond individual components. Today, our portfolio allows us to offer complete solutions for machines and control panels, rather than addressing only one component within the system.

This is an important direction for us. Our future product development is also focused on strengthening our presence across these applications and enabling customers to source more of their connectivity and interface requirements from a single, trusted partner.

We are also strengthening the portfolio with next-generation distribution blocks under Connection Technology and relay solutions under Interface Solutions.

The opportunity is no longer simply to sell more products; it is to become more relevant to the customer’s complete application.

4. What latest technologies or innovations is Connectwell focusing on to improve product performance, safety and reliability?

For us, innovation starts with a simple philosophy: “Quality as a way of life.”

We are investing significantly in the digitisation of manufacturing and warehousing, AI integration and factory automation, while also working towards making our tool room one of the most advanced in the segment.

The objective is not technology for technology’s sake, but using it to improve consistency, efficiency, traceability and ultimately the customer’s experience.

Our biggest strength, however, is our people. We take immense pride in having more than 100 highly skilled design engineers working across design, development, prototyping and testing. Supported by a UL-accredited laboratory and strong testing infrastructure, we have built an ecosystem that is largely self-sustainable—from the drawing board to mould development and ultimately to a world-class finished product.

Sustainability is also becoming an integral part of this ecosystem. From using natural light in our office infrastructure and installing PV systems at our factories, to EMS integration for monitoring and EV infrastructure at our manufacturing facilities, we are embedding sustainability into the way we operate.

For us, innovation is not about creating something new for its own sake. It is about continuously finding better ways to create products that are safer, more reliable, more efficient and built to last.

5. How is Connectwell supporting industries in their changing electrical and automation requirements, especially with the growing demand for smart and efficient solutions?

The way customers engage with a connectivity partner is changing. They increasingly expect support before the product is selected, during implementation and even after the system is commissioned. We are therefore building our engagement around the complete application journey.

Our teams work with customers and OEMs at the design stage, while our digital engagement strategy—including application notes, technical content and blogs on our website—helps customers access knowledge when they need it.

We also participate in design platforms such as EPLAN, support assembly through our configurator, train users on product features and bring in our application engineering teams to study specific requirements.

From design to selection, assembly to application, we aim to cover all bases.

Automation is creating a clear need for compactness and higher density without compromising functionality or safety, faster installation, modularity and, increasingly, preventive diagnosis.

There is also an important principle that we believe strongly in: at the base of every smart or sustainable system, the component itself must be capable of supporting that ambition.

Looking ahead, customers will expect three things from their connectivity partner: reliability, scalability and trust—along with the ability to provide a one-stop portfolio for connectivity, interface and cable management solutions.

Our application engineers have one fundamental responsibility: to turn the customer’s vision into reality.

6. What is your marketing strategy for strengthening Connectwell’s presence in the Indian market and reaching new customers and industry segments?

I look at marketing very differently from simply creating visibility. Visibility gets attention. Value creates preference.

Our marketing approach therefore needs to be closely connected with the market, the customer and the application.

India is going through significant industrial transformation, creating opportunities across established as well as emerging sectors. Our responsibility is to identify where our capabilities can create meaningful value and then build the right engagement with customers, consultants, OEMs, system integrators and channel partners.

We are placing greater emphasis on technical engagement, customer interaction, application-led communication and knowledge sharing.

Digital platforms have changed the way customers discover and evaluate products, but I don’t believe digital can replace relationships in industrial business. It should strengthen them.

Ultimately, our marketing philosophy is about being closer to the customer, more relevant to the application and more visible where decisions are actually being made.

Because in B2B markets, the strongest brand is not necessarily the one that speaks the loudest.

It is the one that the customer trusts when the decision matters.

7. Are there any plans to expand your product portfolio, manufacturing capabilities or presence in new markets in the coming years?

We see the next phase of growth coming from a combination of portfolio expansion, deeper application capabilities, manufacturing excellence and wider market reach.

Our approach, however, is deliberate. Expansion is not about entering a market simply because it is growing. There has to be a clear strategic fit with our capabilities and, more importantly, a meaningful customer requirement.

We are strengthening our portfolio around the applications where we see significant long-term potential, particularly across automation, power, infrastructure, energy and other industrial segments.

The introduction of next-generation distribution blocks and relay solutions is part of this broader portfolio-building approach.

At the same time, we are continuing to invest in manufacturing and technology capabilities so that growth is supported by the right infrastructure and execution capability.

I believe sustainable expansion requires a balance between ambition and discipline.

We want to grow, but we want to grow in a way that protects the fundamentals that have built Connectwell—quality, reliability, customer trust and execution discipline.

For us, expansion is not about becoming bigger for the sake of being bigger. It is about becoming more capable and more relevant.

8. What is your vision for the next 3–5 years, and what role do innovation, new products and market expansion play in achieving this vision?

The next three to five years will be about moving from growth to capability-led growth.

We want Connectwell to be recognised not only for the products we manufacture, but for the engineering capability, reliability and value we bring to the customer’s application.

Innovation will be central to this journey, but I see innovation in a broader sense. It includes products, processes, technology, manufacturing, customer engagement and even the way we think about markets.

New products will allow us to address emerging requirements. Market expansion will give us a larger canvas. But neither will be sustainable without the right people, systems and execution capabilities behind them.

Our ambition is to increasingly become a one-stop partner for connectivity, interface and cable management solutions, while deepening our role in the applications and industries we serve.

So, if I had to summarise the next three to five years in one thought, it would be:

Build deeper capabilities. Serve broader markets. Create greater customer value.

And while we look at growth, I would like us to remain grounded in something that has always mattered in our industry:

A product may open the door, but trust is what keeps the relationship going.
