SJVN Completes 72-Hour Trial Run of 660 MW Unit-2 at Buxar Thermal Power Project

SJVN has successfully completed the 72-hour trial run operation of Unit-2 of its 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project in Bihar on August 31, 2026, marking a key milestone ahead of the unit’s commercial operation.

SJVN Chairman & Managing Director Bhupender Gupta congratulated employees and all stakeholders on the successful completion of the trial run. He said that with the completion of the 72-hour trial operation, the company is now set for the commercial operation of Unit-2.

SJVN Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma described the successful trial run as another significant milestone in the company’s journey. He credited the achievement to the team’s hard work, professionalism and commitment despite various challenges.

Director (Finance) Parthajit De also congratulated the teams involved and said the successful trial run of Unit-2 would further strengthen SJVN’s generation portfolio and reinforce its position as a multidimensional energy company contributing to India’s sustainable energy growth.

SJVN Director (Projects) Rajesh Kumar Chandel also congratulated the employees and appreciated the coordinated efforts behind the completion of the unit. He termed the achievement significant for SJVN’s thermal power journey.

The 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project is being implemented by SJVN Thermal Private Limited (STPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN. The project is based on supercritical technology, which is designed to provide higher efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

The project comprises two units of 660 MW each and incorporates advanced emission control technology to minimise its environmental impact. Once fully commissioned, the project is expected to generate approximately 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually, supporting the country’s growing power demand.
