
The second day of SEMICON India 2026 witnessed 25 announcements and collaborations covering semiconductor manufacturing, materials, logistics, chip design, advanced packaging, power electronics and workforce development, further expanding partnerships across India’s semiconductor value chain.
The announcements included initiatives aimed at strengthening domestic availability of high-purity gases and chemicals, developing semiconductor logistics infrastructure, advancing chip-design capabilities, localising packaging technologies and building a skilled workforce for the sector.
Among the major developments, Tata Electronics entered into several partnerships to strengthen the domestic semiconductor supply chain. The company partnered with INOX Air Products to support the local availability of high-purity gases required for semiconductor manufacturing and with Sumitomo Chemical to localise high-purity wet chemicals and other advanced materials used in front-end semiconductor manufacturing.
Tata Electronics also partnered with Kelington Engineering for gas distribution systems, high-purity piping and semiconductor process tool installation, along with training for local partners in specialised manufacturing skills. Its collaboration with Japan-based Enomoto will focus on advanced semiconductor packaging through joint research and development and localisation of lead-frame manufacturing.
Another partnership between Tata Electronics and L&T Semiconductor Technologies will explore manufacturing L&T Semiconductor Technologies’ products at Tata Electronics’ fabrication and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test facilities, initially focusing on consumer-grade camera modules.
L&T Semiconductor Technologies also announced a series of product-development collaborations. Its partnership with Virtual Forest will focus on power electronics solutions for air-conditioning and solar-powered systems, while its collaboration with Newen Systems will target silicon carbide power modules for renewable energy applications and AI data centres. The company has also partnered with Fimer India to work on insulated gate bipolar transistors for renewable energy systems and with Capital Power Systems to develop IoT modules for smart meters, beginning with an indigenous 4G communication module.
Indigenisation of semiconductor technologies also featured prominently. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Power and POWERGRID announced a collaboration to develop indigenous silicon carbide power modules for high-voltage direct-current transmission systems. The technology will be piloted at POWERGRID’s 1,000 MW Pusauli project in Bihar.
Supply-chain infrastructure was another focus area, with the India Semiconductor Mission signing an MoU with Nippon Express Holdings to strengthen semiconductor logistics covering warehousing, customs and other specialised requirements associated with the industry.
The event also saw the launch of India’s first indigenous System-on-Module, IndieSemiC’s ISC VegaSOM. The product integrates C-DAC’s Vega-Thejas32 processor with IndieSemiC’s LoRa radio-frequency module and has been developed under C-DAC’s Industry Support Centre initiative.
In semiconductor assembly and testing, Kaynes Semicon partnered with IndieSemiC for qualification, assembly and testing of advanced packages and development of customised system-in-package products. Kaynes Semicon, Microchip Technology and GridCrest Technologies also announced a collaboration to explore an India-based pathway for energy-metering system-on-chips.
Skilling and workforce development formed another important part of the Day 2 announcements. SEMI and the India Deep Tech Alliance announced plans to develop the India Semiconductor Academy, an industry-led national skilling platform involving partners such as Cadence, CG Semi, Dixon Technologies, Micron Technology, Synopsys, 3D Glass Solutions, UC San Diego and IIT Kanpur.
The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) also entered into separate collaborations with Siemens EDA, Tata Electronics, Singapore Polytechnic International, Semiconductor Laboratory, India Electronics and Semiconductor Association and SEMI University for semiconductor design education, workforce development, training and certification.
NIELIT and Semiconductor Laboratory additionally launched an indigenous 0.8-micron open-source Process Design Kit on the NIELIT eChipHub platform, aimed at improving access to chip-design tools for students and innovators.
The India Deep Tech Alliance also reported investments of $263 million across 56 Indian deep-tech companies, highlighting the growing focus on technology development and innovation alongside semiconductor manufacturing.
Speaking during the event, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the importance of cost, quality, manufacturability, product life cycle and power consumption for Indian semiconductor companies competing in global markets. He also pointed to water recycling in semiconductor fabrication facilities and closed-loop cooling systems in data centres as important areas of sustainability.
SEMICON India 2026 is being held at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi from September 17 to 19. The event features more than 600 participating companies, including around 300 international exhibitors, and is expected to attract about 50,000 visitors from 52 countries. The exhibition also includes six country pavilions, 12 state booths, a startup pavilion, innovation showcase, student hackathon and workforce development pavilion.
The 25 Day 2 announcements reflect the expanding scope of India’s semiconductor ecosystem, with activity extending beyond chip fabrication into materials, equipment, logistics, packaging, power electronics, chip design and specialised workforce development.
