POWERGRID and Africa50 Incorporate SPV for Kenya Transmission PPP Project

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited and Africa50 have successfully incorporated a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Mwanga Transmission Company Limited, in Kenya to implement a major power transmission project under the public-private partnership (PPP) framework.

The incorporation was completed on April 21, 2026, following the issuance of a Certificate of Incorporation by the Registrar of Companies in Kenya. The SPV has been formed to execute the Kenya Independent Power Transmission Project in collaboration with Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO).

Under the agreed structure, POWERGRID holds a 40% equity stake in the SPV, while Africa50 holds the remaining 60%. The project is part of a broader initiative to strengthen Kenya’s power transmission infrastructure through private sector participation.

The development marks a significant step in expanding POWERGRID’s international footprint in the transmission sector, particularly in Africa, through strategic partnerships and PPP-based infrastructure projects.
