NLC India Announces Commercial Operation of Third Unit at 1,980 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Project

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has announced that Unit-3 of the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project in Uttar Pradesh has achieved Commercial Operation Declaration (COD), marking the full commissioning of the 1,980 MW thermal power station.

The 660 MW unit commenced commercial operations effective from June 13, 2026. The project is being developed by Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture between NLC India Limited, which holds a 51% stake, and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL), which holds the remaining 49%.

With the commercial operation of the third unit, all three units of the Ghatampur Thermal Power Station, each with a capacity of 660 MW, are now fully operational. The commissioning represents a significant milestone for the project and is expected to enhance the availability of reliable power in Uttar Pradesh while supporting the country’s growing energy demand.

The addition of Unit-3 has also increased the overall installed power generation capacity of the NLC India Group from 7,745 MW to 8,405 MW.

The Ghatampur Thermal Power Project is one of the key power generation projects aimed at strengthening the electricity infrastructure of Uttar Pradesh and contributing to India’s long-term energy security objectives.
