Hitachi Energy has signed long-term framework agreements with Enedis, France’s leading electricity distribution system operator, valued at €350 million (US$398 million) to supply distribution and power transformers. The agreements are aimed at supporting the modernization of France’s electricity grid while addressing the ongoing global shortage of transformers.
France is pursuing a major shift from fossil fuels toward electricity as part of its climate and strategic objectives. The country aims to reduce the share of fossil fuels in its energy mix from 60% to 40% by 2030. The long-term supply of transformers is expected to help Enedis expand and modernize its grid, manage rising electricity demand and maintain reliable power supply for millions of consumers.
“Hitachi Energy and Enedis share a nearly two-decade relationship, supported by our manufacturing footprint in Italy and Poland. These agreements reinforce our commitment to securing transformer capacity and co-creating solutions that strengthen France’s power grid and accelerate the clean energy transition.

The agreements also include Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), providing transparency on the environmental performance of the transformers across their lifecycles. The arrangement includes a continued focus on improving manufacturing performance throughout the contract period.
The partnership will also draw on Hitachi Energy’s installed base, data-driven insights and lifecycle services to help reduce unplanned outages, improve transformer efficiency and extend asset life. These capabilities are intended to support Enedis in developing a resilient, sustainable and future-ready electricity grid.
Hitachi Energy operates more than 60 transformer factories and over 30 service centres globally, with more than 20,000 employees in its Transformers business. The company also has a broad transformer portfolio, manufacturing capacity and a large installed base across global markets.
