Energy in Motion Ltd. (EIM) has inaugurated an integrated electric heavy-duty commercial vehicle complex in Ambi village, Talegaon, Pune, with an initial capacity of 5,000 vehicles per shift per year. The facility combines an electric heavy commercial vehicle assembly facility, a lithium-ion battery pack assembly factory and an independent battery testing laboratory. Developed in just over a year following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), the complex marks the first phase of EIM’s ₹1,000 crore investment in Maharashtra and is expected to generate more than 2,000 direct and indirect jobs, along with work opportunities in design, research and development (R&D), and information technology (IT).
The facility was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of Sharadchandra Pawar, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), and Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
The Industry 4.0-enabled complex brings commercial vehicle assembly, lithium-ion heavy battery pack assembly and independent battery testing under one roof. According to the company, this integrated approach strengthens its capabilities across the manufacturing, battery technology and testing value chain.
In addition to manufacturing heavy electric vehicles, Energy in Motion is building nationwide battery swapping and charging infrastructure along major highways, ports and industrial complexes. These megawatt scale hubs can swap batteries of EIM vehicles and other compatible makes in less than 7 minutes and fast charge any vehicle equipped with the DC fast charging BIS standard (CCS-2) socket.
The company has technology partnerships including a BAIC Foton Motor for electric heavy vehicles. Foton Motor is one of the largest commercial vehicle company exceeding sales of 650,000 units last year. Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) is the world’s largest battery manufacturer with 39% share of the global market. Shanghai Enneagon Energy Technology Co., Limited for robotic battery swapping systems. It has built over 1600 stations worldwide.
These collaborations enable EIM to combine world-class technological expertise with localized, Indiafocused manufacturing and infrastructure development.
With the opening of the Talegaon complex, Energy in Motion Ltd. reinforces its position at the forefront of India’s commercial EV transition, shaping a cleaner, more efficient future for commercial transportation.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Narendra Murkumbi, Managing Director, EIM Ltd, said, “We are delighted to launch this integrated manufacturing and testing complex in Pune where we will build some of the largest electric vehicles that will ply on India’s roads. This facility was built is record time due to facilitation by Maharashtra government, full support of all our technology partners, speedy execution by our hosts RMK Spaces and the round-the-clock efforts of EIM’s team lead by our Manufacturing head, Shri Mahesh Keskar. We now focus on building out a nationwide network of megawatt scale charging and battery swapping stations to enable India’s speedy transition from diesel to electric heavy goods transportation.”
