Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process to establish an Inter-State Transmission System for evacuating power from the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase-IV, Part-5, involving 6 GW capacity at the Barmer Complex.
The project, titled “Transmission system for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Ph-IV (Part-5: 6 GW) [Barmer Complex] Barmer-II: 6 GW (Solar) (LCC Configuration)”, will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis.
POWERGRID has quoted annual transmission charges of ₹3,244.33 crore for the project. The company received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on September 2, 2026, according to its regulatory filing.
Project to Establish 6,000 MW HVDC Terminals
The transmission project will involve the establishment of 6,000 MW, ±800 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) terminals at Barmer-II in Rajasthan and South Kalamb Substation (S/s) in Maharashtra, along with augmentation of the South Kalamb substation.
As part of the project, POWERGRID will construct a ±800 kV HVDC bipole transmission line between Barmer-II and South Kalamb, spanning approximately 1,000 km across Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
The project will also include the construction of 400 kV transmission lines in Rajasthan, along with associated bays. In addition, two SynCon units will be installed at the Barmer-II Power Station (PS), together with the associated bays.
The project forms part of the transmission infrastructure planned for the evacuation of power from the 6 GW solar capacity at Barmer-II under Rajasthan REZ Phase-IV.
