Hitachi Energy Strengthens North American Transformer Supply Chain with Strategic Canduct Acquisition

Hitachi Energy has announced a major expansion of its North American transformer insulation business through a definitive agreement to acquire Canduct Group, a leading manufacturer of transformer insulation kits and components. The strategic investment is aimed at addressing a critical bottleneck in the region’s transformer supply chain, enhancing local manufacturing capabilities, strengthening supply chain resilience, and accelerating the delivery of essential grid infrastructure.

The acquisition is expected to close at the beginning of the third calendar quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.

Headquartered in Ontario, Canada, Canduct serves original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and transformer repair companies across the United States and Canada. Established in 1982, the company has supplied transformer insulation solutions to Hitachi Energy for more than two decades. Upon completion of the acquisition, Canduct’s operations and workforce of over 300 employees will be integrated into Hitachi Energy’s business, expanding its ability to deliver critical transformer components required to support the unprecedented growth in electricity demand across the region.

Commenting on the development, Bruno Melles, CEO of Business Unit Transformers at Hitachi Energy, said, “Hitachi Energy is strengthening its leadership in transformer insulation through this strategic expansion in North America. By acquiring Canduct Group, we are expanding regional capabilities, strengthening supply chains for insulation kits and components, and supporting the growing demand for electrification across the region.”

The acquisition further reinforces Hitachi Energy’s long-term commitment to supporting grid modernization and electrification efforts in North America. The expanded regional footprint is expected to improve the availability of essential transformer insulation products and components, helping utilities and manufacturers meet increasing infrastructure requirements.

For more than a century, Hitachi Energy has been a trusted supplier of transformer insulation and components to OEMs and distributors of power and distribution transformers worldwide. Transformers and their associated components—including bushings, tap-changers, insulation materials, and accessories play a vital role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electricity networks, making them indispensable to modern power infrastructure.
