The Madhya Pradesh government is set to sign three agreements on Tuesday for the development of 4,000 MW of thermal power capacity, involving an estimated investment of around Rs 60,000 crore. The projects will be set up in Anuppur district, with power generation expected to commence from 2030.
The agreements follow the state government’s approval for procuring 4,000 MW of electricity from new thermal power projects. MP Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) has completed a competitive bidding process on a DBFOO (Design, Build, Finance, Own & Operate) basis for establishing the plants, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister and Energy Department Neeraj Mandloi told PTI.
Under the tender process, three developers have been selected for a total capacity of 3,200 MW, while an additional 800 MW has been allocated under the greenshoe option, Mandloi said.
Energy Minister Pradyumn Singh Tomar said the projects are expected to attract direct investment of approximately Rs 60,000 crore and generate about 3,000 direct and 5,000 indirect employment opportunities in the state.
As per the allocation, Hindustan Thermal Projects Limited has been awarded 800 MW, Torrent Power Limited 1,600 MW, and Adani Power Limited 800 MW, along with an additional 800 MW under the greenshoe option.
An official explained that the greenshoe option allows the power procurer, typically a government or utility company, to increase the initially awarded project capacity under the same terms and conditions as specified in the original contract.
