Waaree Transpower, a subsidiary of Waaree Energies, has secured an order worth approximately ₹160 crore from an energy storage technology and solutions provider for the supply of 8.3 MVA medium-voltage (MV) skids for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) applications. The order strengthens the company’s position in the electrical infrastructure segment supporting the rapidly expanding energy-storage market.
The order covers IEC-compliant, plug-and-play MV skid solutions designed specifically for BESS projects. The equipment is integrated within a 20-foot container, enabling transportation and installation as a packaged unit across project locations. Its stackable and shippable configuration is also intended to provide greater flexibility for large-scale energy-storage deployments.
Shipments under the order have already commenced from July 2026, giving the contract an immediate execution component. The development also marks a significant step in Waaree Transpower’s efforts to expand its business beyond conventional transformer manufacturing and participate more directly in the electrical infrastructure requirements of the energy transition.
MV skids play a critical role in BESS installations by integrating key medium-voltage electrical equipment into a compact, factory-assembled package. Such systems can simplify project deployment while supporting the connection of battery-storage assets with wider electrical networks.
The timing of the order is significant as BESS is becoming increasingly important to India’s power system. Rapid growth in solar and wind generation is creating a greater need for flexible resources that can store electricity when renewable generation is high and discharge it when demand rises or renewable output falls.
Energy storage can also help address grid-balancing requirements, manage renewable intermittency and improve the utilisation of transmission and distribution infrastructure. As renewable capacity expands, demand is consequently shifting from generation equipment alone towards the wider ecosystem of transformers, switchgear, power-conversion systems and grid-interconnection infrastructure.
The ₹160 crore order therefore represents not only a sizeable addition to Waaree Transpower’s business pipeline but also a strategic entry deeper into the BESS electrical-infrastructure ecosystem, where demand is expected to grow alongside India’s transition towards a more flexible and renewable-rich power system.
