Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced the establishment of a Semiconductor and Electronics Manufacturing Park at Maduramangalam in Kancheepuram district, with the project estimated to cost ₹175 crore. The initiative is aimed at attracting greater investment into the semiconductor sector and increasing Tamil Nadu’s share in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.
The park will be developed by the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) and will house semiconductor manufacturing units along with supporting facilities. The state government expects the project to attract investments of around ₹2,000 crore and generate approximately 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Announcing the project in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly under Rule 110, Chief Minister Vijay said the initiative would help strengthen the state’s presence in the semiconductor industry and create an ecosystem capable of supporting new investments and industrial activity in the sector.
A key component of the proposed park will be a world-class research and development facility. The R&D infrastructure is intended to facilitate the establishment of new semiconductor industries and support companies operating in the sector with advanced research and development capabilities.
The project comes as Tamil Nadu seeks to expand its electronics and semiconductor manufacturing base and attract larger investments in high-technology industries. The proposed park is expected to provide dedicated infrastructure for companies looking to establish manufacturing operations while also supporting research and innovation activities.
The initiative is also expected to contribute to employment generation in the region, with the state government estimating that the park could create around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs once the ecosystem develops.
The announcement forms part of a broader set of industrial and infrastructure initiatives unveiled by the Tamil Nadu government. Alongside the semiconductor park, the Chief Minister announced a ₹400-crore Digital FinTech Hub in Coimbatore and a Multi-Modal Logistics Hub in the Tiruchirappalli region, aimed at strengthening the state’s technology, financial-services and logistics infrastructure.
