POWERGRID Secures Transmission Project for Installation of Synchronous Condensers at Fatehgarh-II Substation

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has emerged as the successful bidder for a key interstate transmission project involving the installation of synchronous condenser units at the Fatehgarh-II substation.

The company has received the Letter of Intent (LoI) for the project, which entails the installation and commissioning of two synchronous condenser (SynCon) units at the 765/400/220 kV Fatehgarh-II Power Station. The project will also include the development of associated bays required for the operation of the new equipment.

The project is aimed at strengthening grid stability and enhancing the reliability of the transmission network through the deployment of synchronous condenser technology. These systems play a crucial role in providing reactive power support, improving voltage regulation, and maintaining overall grid performance, particularly in regions witnessing increasing integration of renewable energy sources.

POWERGRID will execute the project under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model. The development of the synchronous condenser facilities is expected to contribute to the efficient operation of the interstate transmission system and support the growing power demand across the region.

With this latest project win, POWERGRID continues to expand its portfolio of critical transmission infrastructure projects, reinforcing its role in strengthening India’s power transmission network and enabling a more resilient and reliable grid.
