Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has appointed Shri Akhilesh Pathak as Director (Projects), effective September 30, 2026. Shri Pathak has assumed charge of the position following an order issued by the Ministry of Power on the same date. His tenure will continue until his superannuation on May 31, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
POWERGRID’s Board of Directors approved his appointment as an Additional Director [Director (Projects)] at its meeting held on September 30, 2026. Following Shri Pathak’s assumption of charge, Shri Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan, Chairman and Managing Director of POWERGRID, relinquished the additional charge of Director (Projects).
Shri Pathak is an electrical and electronics engineering graduate from Mangalore University, Karnataka, having completed his degree in 1991. He has also strengthened his leadership capabilities through the Harvard ManageMentor Programme conducted by Harvard Business School.
With more than 32 years of experience in the power sector, Shri Pathak has expertise in transmission system planning, project execution, project management, business development and strategic infrastructure development. He joined POWERGRID as an Executive Trainee in the organisation’s first batch in 1993 and has since held several key leadership positions.
His experience includes the development, execution, monitoring and commissioning of extra-high-voltage (EHV) transmission lines and substations. During his tenure in POWERGRID’s Project Management Department, he contributed to achieving the corporation’s highest-ever capital expenditure (CAPEX) utilisation, along with one of its highest levels of asset capitalisation and transmission line additions, measured in circuit kilometres (CKM).
Shri Pathak also played a key role in resolving critical project implementation challenges through stakeholder coordination and strategic project monitoring. He successfully led the Arun-3 SAPDC Transmission Project in Nepal, addressing cross-border, regulatory and geographical challenges. In addition, he contributed to POWERGRID’s business development activities by expanding consultancy services and supporting revenue growth initiatives.
Before his appointment as Director (Projects), Shri Pathak served as Executive Director, OSD (Projects), at POWERGRID.
