NHPC, CSPDCL Sign 40-Year Power Purchase Agreement for 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project

NHPC Limited and Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Ltd (CSPDCL) have signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the procurement of power from NHPC’s 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. The agreement was signed in Raipur on July 14, 2026.

Under the agreement, NHPC will supply power from the Kamala Hydro Electric Project to CSPDCL for a period of 40 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the project. The partnership reinforces the commitment of both organizations to ensuring a reliable supply of clean and sustainable hydroelectric power while supporting long-term energy requirements.

Commenting on the development, Shri Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, NHPC, said that the signing of the long-term PPA represents another significant milestone in NHPC’s efforts to support India’s clean energy transition through dependable and sustainable hydropower. He noted that the partnership would contribute to strengthening long-term energy security while advancing the nation’s renewable energy goals.

The Power Purchase Agreement was signed by Shri Ranjeet Thakur, General Manager (Commercial), NHPC, and Shri V.K. Sai, Executive Director (Regulatory Affairs & Power Management), CSPDCL.

Senior officials from NHPC and CSPDCL were present during the signing ceremony, underscoring the strategic importance of the agreement and the shared commitment of both organizations towards expanding access to clean energy through hydropower-based generation.
