Bajel Projects Secures Major Order Worth Over ₹200 Crore for 220 kV GIS Substations in Mumbai

Bajel Projects Limited has secured a major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) order worth over ₹200 crore for the supply and installation of 220 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substations at Salsette and Powai receiving stations in Mumbai. The order, classified as a ‘Major’ order under the company’s project classification policy, includes GST.

The project comprises two packages. Package A covers the supply and installation of a 220 kV GIS at the Salsette Receiving Station, while Package B involves the supply and installation of a 220 kV outdoor GIS substation at the Powai Receiving Station.

The two substations are expected to strengthen Mumbai’s power transmission infrastructure by enhancing network capacity and reliability. GIS technology requires significantly less space than conventional air-insulated substations, making it suitable for densely populated urban areas such as Mumbai, where land availability is limited and electricity demand continues to grow.

Commenting on the win, Rajesh Ganesh, Managing Director & CEO, Bajel Projects Limited, said: “We are proud to contribute to strengthening Mumbai’s power infrastructure. Building high-voltage GIS substations inside a working metropolis calls for precise engineering, tight site planning and uncompromising safety, and this order reflects the confidence our clients place in Bajel’s execution capabilities. Mumbai city’s growing power needs demand a grid that is resilient and future-ready, and we are committed to delivering both projects to the highest standards of quality.”
