Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) will construct 74 new 33/11 kV electricity substations across the state at an estimated investment of Rs 546.21 crore under its Business Plan 2026-27.
The expansion is aimed at strengthening the electricity distribution network, improving voltage conditions and meeting the growing demand for power across urban and rural areas.
According to the corporation, construction work on 60 of the 74 sanctioned substations is already underway, while work on the remaining 14 locations is expected to commence shortly.
The new facilities will be established at identified locations across several districts, including Azamgarh, Sitapur, Prayagraj, Mathura, Meerut, Budaun and Bhadohi.
The proposed substations are expected to increase the electricity distribution capacity of the respective areas and reduce the load on existing infrastructure.
Overloading of distribution substations and low-voltage conditions have been among the challenges faced by electricity consumers in areas experiencing rising demand.
The additional facilities are expected to help address these issues by improving the distribution network’s ability to handle electricity loads.
The project is also expected to improve the reliability and quality of electricity supply by strengthening the last-mile distribution infrastructure.
With electricity consumption increasing across residential, commercial and industrial segments, the expansion of substations has become an important requirement for maintaining uninterrupted power supply.
UPPCL Chairman and Principal Secretary (Energy) Ranvir Prasad has directed officials to ensure that construction activities follow prescribed technical standards and are completed within the stipulated timeframe.
The corporation has emphasised timely execution and quality monitoring as part of its efforts to upgrade electricity infrastructure across Uttar Pradesh.
