SPML Infra Limited has announced a significant milestone in its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) journey, with its proprietary 104.4 kWh battery pack, developed under SPML’s own intellectual property, successfully completing key international safety, performance and transportation certification and testing requirements.
The battery pack has been engineered and developed as part of SPML’s strategy to build indigenous technology and manufacturing capabilities for India’s rapidly expanding grid-scale energy storage market.
The SPML-developed battery pack has successfully completed requirements under UL9540A, IEC 62619, IEC 63056, IEC 60730, IEC 61000-6-2 and IEC 61000-6-4, together with UN38.3 at the battery-pack and system level.
Together, these compliances address critical areas including thermal runaway safety, battery performance, system functional safety, electromagnetic compatibility and transportation safety.
Building Indigenous BESS Technology and Manufacturing A key element of this milestone is the development of the 104.4 kWh battery pack under SPML’s own intellectual property, strengthening the Company’s ability to develop, manufacture and further evolve battery energy storage products for the Indian market. SPML Infra is establishing its BESS manufacturing and integration capabilities in Pune, Maharashtra, with capabilities being developed across battery pack assembly, engineering, system integration and large-scale project execution.
The milestone represents an important step in SPML’s strategy to progressively localize critical BESS engineering and technology capabilities in India, while building greater control over product development and evolution. The Company believes that combining proprietary product engineering with domestic manufacturing and its established EPC execution capabilities can create a differentiated platform for participation in India’s emerging energy storage ecosystem.
Abhinandan Sethi, Managing Director, SPML Infra Limited, said: “The validation of our proprietary 104.4 kWh battery pack represents an important milestone in SPML Infra’s energy storage journey. What makes this particularly significant for us is that we are developing technology and engineering capabilities within SPML, rather than limiting our role to manufacturing or project execution. Completion of these international certification and testing requirements provides important validation of the safety and engineering foundations of our product.
Our ambition is to build an integrated Indian energy storage platform spanning proprietary product development, manufacturing, system integration and large-scale project execution. We believe this combination can create significant long-term value as energy storage becomes an increasingly critical component of India’s power infrastructure.”
Advancing Towards Commercial Deployment India’s accelerating renewable energy deployment is creating significant demand for energy storage solutions capable of supporting renewable integration, grid balancing, peak-load management and overall grid reliability. SPML Infra sees BESS as a strategic extension of its established capabilities in power infrastructure and an important pillar of the Company’s future growth. The successful completion of certification and testing requirements for its proprietary 104.4 kWh battery pack marks another important step towards commercialization of SPML’s BESS technology and manufacturing platform.
The Company will continue to develop and expand its energy storage technology portfolio as it builds capabilities to address the evolving requirements of India’s utility-scale BESS market.
