Time Technoplast Limited has received a prestigious order worth q2.48 crore to supply a complete TYpe IV Composite CYlinder HYdrogen (Hz) Storage Cascade and Fuel Delivery System for NTPC Limited’s pioneering hydrogen-powered locomotive (RAILWAY) pilot project. The order has been awarded through EPC partner Concorde Control Systems Limited.
The order marks an important development for India’s emerging hydrogen mobility ecosystem and aligns with the country’s broader Make in India initiative. It also builds on India’s progress in indigenous hydrogen rail technology, including the development of the country’s first domestically developed hydrogen-powered train.
The hydrogen fuel cell system for the locomotive is also being designed and manufactured in India, reflecting the development of a domestic ecosystem spanning the hydrogen train value chain, from fuel cells to storage systems. Time Technoplast’s role in supplying the composite cylinders for the hydrogen storage and fuel delivery system further strengthens this ecosystem and highlights the growing demand for composite hydrogen cylinders in India.
Under the project, Time Technoplast will provide the complete onboard H₂ storage and fuel delivery system operating at 350 bar. The system will incorporate the Company’s indigenously developed Type IV composite hydrogen cylinders, along with the high-pressure storage and fuel delivery architecture required for integration with the fuel-cell propulsion system.
The project also demonstrates Time Technoplast’s capabilities beyond composite cylinder manufacturing, extending to the design, engineering and integration of complete high-pressure hydrogen storage and delivery systems. The Company has an established in-house R&D team comprising over 30 experienced professionals.
The project represents an important step in demonstrating hydrogen propulsion for heavyduty, high-power transportation applications.
For Time Technoplast, this project strengthens its growing hydrogen portfolio comprisingType IV composite cylinders, high-pressure storage systems, cascades and integrated hydrogen fuel delivery solutions.
Time Technoplast believes that indigenous hydrogen storage technology will play an important role in India’s transition towards cleaner mobility and support the country’s broader Green Hydrogen ambitions.
The Company sees significant long-term opportunities for hydrogen applications across railways, commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles, public transport, stationary storage and other heavy-duty applications.
Commenting on the development, the Management of Time Technoplast Limited said, “We are privileged to be associated with this prestigious hydrogen locomotive project. The selection of Time Technoplast for the complete H2 storage and fuel delivery system is a significant recognition of our indigenous Type IV composite cylinder technology and growing capabilities in integrated hydrogen storage solutions. This project demonstrates our evolution from a composite cylinder manufacturer to a provider of complete hydrogen storage and fuel delivery solutions. We believe it can become an important reference for future hydrogen applications across railways, heavy commercial vehicles and other high-power mobility platforms in India and internationally.”
