Eltel has been awarded a transmission line contract worth EUR 34 million by Fingrid, marking the largest single transmission line project in the company’s history in Finland.
The contract covers the construction of two parallel 400+110 kV transmission lines spanning a total distance of approximately 43 kilometres. The transmission corridor will pass through the municipalities of Kuhmoinen, Padasjoki, Hämeenlinna and Janakkala. The project forms part of Fingrid’s broader transmission network development programme, under which the new transmission connection has been divided into three separate contracts. Eltel has been selected to execute the middle section of the project.
Construction activities are scheduled to commence in October 2026, with the transmission line expected to be completed by November 2028.
The Hikiä–Toivila transmission connection is a key component of Fingrid’s national grid development strategy aimed at strengthening electricity transmission capacity across Finland. The project is designed to support the expansion of renewable energy generation and facilitate growing industrial investments throughout the country.
As Finland’s electricity system continues to evolve, enhancing north-to-south transmission capacity has become increasingly important. Electricity production and consumption are progressively being concentrated in different regions, making robust transmission infrastructure essential for maintaining a reliable and efficient power network.
The project underscores ongoing efforts to modernise Finland’s transmission system and ensure the grid can accommodate future energy demands while supporting the country’s renewable energy transition and industrial growth objectives.
