Shri Rajesh Kumar Chandel has been appointed as Director (Projects) on the Board of SJVN Limited with effect from 11th June, 2026.
Shri Chandel is a Civil Engineer with over 32 years of experience in the power sector, primarily in the development and execution of hydroelectric projects. He joined SJVN in May 1994.
During his distinguished career, Shri Chandel has been associated with planning, construction, project management, monitoring and execution of hydroelectric projects in India, Nepal and Bhutan. He made significant contributions to the construction of the Head Race Tunnel of the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station and subsequently held various key positions at SJVN’s Corporate Headquarters, including assignments in Corporate Monitoring & Coordination, Corporate Facility Management and the Engineering Officer to the Director (Civil).
Shri Chandel played an important role in the development of international hydropower projects of SJVN and was closely associated with obtaining statutory clearances and advancing project development activities for the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydroelectric Project in Nepal and the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan. He also served as Head of Project, Dhaulasidh Hydro Electric Project (HEP), where he successfully steered the project from conceptualization to the construction phase.
He was appointed as Managing Director of the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project Authority (PHPA-II), Bhutan, where he played a key role in commissioning of project and managing various technical, contractual and coordination matters. He also served as Member Secretary of the Authority.
Prior to his appointment as Director (Projects), Shri Chandel was serving as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN Limited. Earlier, he served as Chief Executive Officer of SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company (SAPDC) and SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company (SLPDC) in Nepal and was responsible for overseeing the implementation and development of SJVN’s hydropower projects in Nepal.
With his extensive experience in project planning, construction management and execution of large hydroelectric projects, Shri Chandel brings rich technical, managerial and leadership experience to the Board of SJVN Limited.
