Polaris Smart Metering Reaches Major Scale with 1 Million Deployments

Polaris Smart Metering has manufactured and deployed more than one million smart meters across India, marking a key milestone in the country’s transition toward digitally enabled power distribution. The achievement supports the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which focuses on modernising electricity networks, reducing losses, and strengthening utility operations.

The company unveiled its one millionth smart meter at its advanced manufacturing facility in Jaipur. The event was attended by senior government officials and industry representatives, underscoring Polaris’ emphasis on domestic manufacturing, technological capability, and large-scale execution aligned with national reform priorities.

Ajitabh Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary Energy and Chairman of Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited, highlighted the increasing importance of smart metering in managing renewable energy and battery storage integration. He noted that the true value of smart meters depends on robust data systems, integrated platforms, and informed decision-making to enhance grid visibility and operational efficiency.

Yashraj Khaitan, Founder and CEO of Polaris Smart Metering, described the milestone as validation of the company’s RDSS-driven execution. He stated that Polaris’ Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) enables two-way communication between utilities and consumers, contributing to a more efficient and financially stable power distribution ecosystem.

Rajeev Sharma, Chairman of Polaris Group, termed the achievement a moment of pride and pointed to the role of smart metering in reducing aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses. He added that Polaris is progressing toward two million meters as deployments accelerate across states.

Polaris currently operates with a manufacturing capacity of five million meters per year. Through its Polaris NOVA facility, the company plans to double this capacity to 10 million meters annually by mid-2026, reflecting confidence in sustained demand from distribution companies.

Polaris collaborates with power distribution companies across multiple states, delivering services spanning manufacturing, installation, system integration, and data security. Its solutions are built for interoperability and scalability, enabling utilities to expand smart metering networks with minimal technical barriers.

Large-scale AMI deployment is enhancing billing accuracy, reducing losses, and providing consumers with greater transparency into electricity usage. It is also supporting utilities in demand management and renewable energy integration.

The one million meters milestone highlights the accelerating momentum of India’s smart metering programme.
