Tata Motors and Stellantis Sign MoU as FIAPL Joint Venture Marks 20 Years

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and global automotive major Stellantis have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore new opportunities for collaboration across manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain operations in India and overseas. The agreement underscores both companies’ intent to deepen cooperation amid rapid changes in the global automotive industry.

The MoU coincides with the 20th anniversary of Fiat India Automobiles (FIAPL), the 50:50 joint venture between Tata Motors and Stellantis. The two companies on Tuesday commemorated two decades of partnership built around their shared manufacturing facility at Ranjangaon near Pune.

Over the past 20 years, FIAPL has developed strong capabilities in manufacturing excellence, powertrain development, and supply-chain management, establishing itself as a key pillar of collaboration between the two automotive groups.

Commenting on the milestone, Gregoire Olivier, Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis Asia Pacific, said the joint venture highlights the value of long-term partnerships. He noted that FIAPL stands as a testament to what two strong organizations can achieve together and added that the partners remain focused on evolving the alliance to support future-ready manufacturing, innovation, and sustainable growth in the region.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, echoed these views, emphasising the trust and shared vision that underpin the collaboration. He said the partnership with Stellantis through FIAPL reflects a long-standing relationship built on shared values and a common vision, and expressed confidence in deepening the association in the years ahead.

Industry observers view the renewed collaboration as timely, as automakers increasingly pursue strategic alliances to strengthen supply chains, accelerate innovation, and enhance competitiveness in a rapidly evolving global automotive landscape.
