Power Grid solar transmission project commissioned in Rajasthan

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd has announced the successful commissioning of a major transmission project in Rajasthan by its wholly owned subsidiary, POWERGRID Bhadla Sikar Transmission Limited. The project, designed to evacuate 8.1GW of solar power, was commissioned on January 14, 2026, with the Commercial Operation (DCO) notification received on January 16, 2026.

The project is part of the “Transmission system strengthening scheme for evacuation of power from Solar Energy Zones in Rajasthan (8.1GW) under Phase II – Part E.” It was secured through Tariff Based Competitive Bidding, highlighting the subsidiary’s strength in executing large inter-state transmission projects.

The transmission system is an Inter-State Transmission System located in Rajasthan, developed under Phase II – Part E. With a capacity of 8.1GW, it supports large-scale solar energy evacuation from the state’s solar zones.

The project achieved full commissioning with effect from January 14, 2026. The formal start of commercial operations was confirmed after the DCO notification was received via email on January 16, 2026.

This transmission infrastructure plays a key role in strengthening India’s renewable energy network. By enabling efficient evacuation of solar power from Rajasthan, it supports the integration of renewable energy into the national grid and adds significant capacity to the country’s transmission system.

POWERGRID Bhadla Sikar Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, undertakes transmission projects through competitive bidding. The successful completion of this project reflects the group’s operational capability and experience in developing critical transmission infrastructure.
