Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has emerged as the successful bidder for a 150 MW / 300 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Andhra Pradesh under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism.
The company has received the Letter of Award (LoA) for setting up the project at the 400/220 kV Kalikiri substation in Chittoor district. The BESS will have a two-hour storage duration and will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis.
The project will be supported through Viability Gap Funding (VGF) from the Power System Development Fund (PSDF). It forms part of a larger initiative to install 2,000 MWh of battery energy storage capacity at selected substations of the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTRANSCO).
Once commissioned, the standalone BESS is expected to enhance grid reliability and flexibility, support peak power management, and facilitate smoother integration of renewable energy into the state grid.
POWERGRID, a Maharatna central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power, will now proceed with detailed planning and execution of the project in line with the awarded terms.
