In a significant move toward expanding its clean energy portfolio, Mitsubishi Corporation has acquired a strategic stake in KIS Group, a Bengaluru-based renewable energy company specializing in biogas and waste-to-energy solutions. The investment marks Mitsubishi’s official entry into India’s fast-growing biogas sector, aligning with its global strategy to promote low-carbon and sustainable energy systems.
Through this partnership, Mitsubishi aims to leverage KIS Group’s proven expertise in developing, engineering, and operating large-scale biogas and biomethane projects across India and Southeast Asia. The collaboration will focus on scaling up clean energy generation from organic and industrial waste, supporting India’s national goals of promoting circular economy practices and reducing carbon emissions.
KIS Group, known for its advanced anaerobic digestion technologies, has implemented over 80 biogas and bio-CNG projects in Asia, contributing to waste reduction and renewable energy production for industrial and agricultural sectors. With Mitsubishi’s investment, the company plans to expand its operations and accelerate the deployment of modern waste-to-energy projects in new regions.
The partnership is expected to combine Mitsubishi’s financial strength, global project development experience, and sustainability expertise with KIS Group’s deep technical capabilities and local market knowledge. Together, they aim to establish a robust platform for clean fuel production, supporting India’s transition toward net-zero emissions and energy self-reliance.
This acquisition underscores the growing interest of global corporations in India’s renewable energy landscape, particularly in the biogas sector, which is projected to play a pivotal role in achieving the country’s renewable energy and waste management targets under the National Bioenergy Programme.
