Tsuyo Manufacturing signs LOI with Karnataka government to build an EV powertrain plant and testing track in Dharwad.

Indian EV technology company Tsuyo Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd. has inked a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Government of Karnataka to establish a cutting-edge electric powertrain manufacturing plant and a dedicated testing track in Dharwad. The agreement was formalised at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025, in the presence of Karnataka’s IT & Biotechnology Minister, Priyank Kharge, and senior state officials.

Under the proposed plan, Tsuyo’s facility will specialise in heavy-duty EV powertrain systems aimed at commercial and industrial vehicles. The plant’s production scope will cover a wide spectrum of components from electric motors (across topologies such as IPMSM, ACIM, SRM, SynRM, and axial flux) to e-drives, e-axles, automatic transmissions, and integrated 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 powertrain assemblies.

Tsuyo has revealed that the manufacturing line will initially support power levels ranging from 0.5 kW to 250 kW, with plans to scale up to 600 kW capacity through strategic partnerships with CETL and LvKON.
A significant part of the project is the construction of a large testing track on the site, specifically designed to validate and test heavy-duty electric vehicles such as buses, trucks, and mining vehicles under real-world conditions. This will allow Tsuyo to accelerate the development and validation of its powertrain systems tailored for Indian terrain and usage scenarios.

From a strategic standpoint, Tsuyo’s initiative is expected to reduce India’s dependence on imported EV powertrain components and strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity for commercial EVs. It is also aligned with the Karnataka government’s Local Economy Accelerator Program (LEAP), which aims to boost decentralised industrial growth and foster innovation outside major urban centres.

The project is expected to generate both direct and indirect jobs, contributing to economic growth in north Karnataka. Tsuyo’s CEO, Vijay Kumar, described the LOI as a “pivotal moment” for advancing India’s EV ecosystem, while Minister Priyank Kharge highlighted the company’s commitment as reinforcing Karnataka’s industry-friendly policy and ambition to become a hub for next-generation mobility solutions.
Overall, the new plant and testing facility mark a significant step forward for Tsuyo and for India’s push toward self-reliance in EV powertrain manufacturing, especially in the heavy commercial vehicle space.
