Tripura–Mizoram natural gas pipeline project reviewed by FCS&CA Minister during Tripura visit

Mizoram’s Food, Civil Supplies & Consumers Affairs (FCS&CA) Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova visited Tripura to review the ongoing works of the Tripura–Mizoram Natural Gas Pipeline, a key energy infrastructure project under the North East Natural Gas Pipeline Grid. The project is targeted for completion by December 2027 and has achieved about 45 per cent physical progress so far.

During the visit to Agartala, the minister held discussions with senior officials of Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Limited (TNGCL). He also toured major natural gas user facilities, including PRAN Beverages (India) Pvt. Ltd., a large industrial consumer at the Tripura Industrial Growth Centre, a CNG station, ONGC facilities, and Subham Solitaire, which has around 330 domestic pipeline connections for cooking gas.

The minister said the visit was aimed at understanding how Tripura is effectively using natural gas and how similar, wider, and more efficient utilisation can be adopted in Mizoram. He highlighted that access to clean and reliable piped natural gas for cooking would be a valuable benefit for people in Mizoram, offering safer supply, lower costs, and better quality fuel. Beyond domestic use, he said the state plans to promote natural gas use in commercial establishments, industries, transport, and other sectors.

Pu B. Lalchhanzova noted that a stable and adequate gas supply could attract large industries to Mizoram and create significant employment opportunities, especially for unemployed youth. He urged all agencies and workers involved to maintain efficiency and commitment to ensure timely completion of the project. Officials of Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGCL) and TNGCL expressed appreciation for the support extended by the Mizoram government.

The Tripura–Mizoram Natural Gas Pipeline starts from the Panisagar Terminal in Tripura and will terminate at the Receiving Terminal at Sihhmui in Mizoram. The pipeline between Panisagar and Sihhmui is 119.5 km long with a diameter of 1 foot, designed to be resistant to landslides and shocks. The pipeline route passes through Kanhmun, Zawlnuam, Kawrthah, Tuidam, Darlak, Mamit, and Lengte.

The pipeline laying work from Panisagar to Sihhmui is being executed by IGCL, while gas distribution and operation from the Sihhmui Terminal to Aizawl city will be handled by TNGCL. In addition to Aizawl, gas distribution is planned to be gradually extended to other parts of Mizoram.

The minister was accompanied by senior FCS&CA department officials, including Secretary Pi Teresy Vanlalhruaii, Additional Secretary Dr. Andrew H. Vanlaldika, and Director Pi Saizikpuii.
