Texmaco Rail hydro-mechanical systems commissioned at Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project

Kolkata-based Texmaco Rail & Engineering has successfully completed the erection and commissioning of Hydro-Mechanical (HM) systems for the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, located on the Arunachal Pradesh–Assam border, marking a key milestone in one of India’s largest renewable energy projects.

The project developer and owner, NHPC, has announced the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for the first generating unit, with three additional units already commissioned. The remaining four units are scheduled for phased commissioning through FY 2026–27. The commissioning of HM systems is a critical enabler for the operationalisation of these units.

Texmaco served as the sole Hydro-Mechanical contractor for the project and was responsible for the complete scope covering design, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the HM systems. These systems play a vital role in ensuring safe, reliable and timely commissioning of the hydroelectric units.

The successful execution of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project further underscores Texmaco Rail & Engineering’s capabilities in delivering complex, large-scale hydropower infrastructure. With an installed capacity of 2,000 MW, the Subansiri project is the largest renewable energy project in India and is expected to make a significant contribution to the national grid, supporting the country’s transition towards clean and sustainable energy while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
