Tata Power Ltd. has secured a significant transmission infrastructure mandate in Maharashtra after receiving a Letter of Intent (LoI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd for the acquisition of Jejuri Hinjewadi Power Transmission Limited, a specially formed project vehicle.
In a regulatory filing on Thursday, the company said the project will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis, with a 35-year transmission service period starting from the scheduled commercial operation date (SCOD), which is planned for 24 months after the transfer of the SPV.
The scope of the project includes constructing approximately 115 kilometres of 400 kV double-circuit transmission lines between Jejuri and Hinjewadi in Maharashtra. It also involves extending the 400 kV GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) bays at the substations in both locations as part of the system upgrade.
Under the terms of the agreement, the SPV is expected to earn annual transmission charges of ₹155.78 crore over the duration of the contract.
Tata Power’s acquisition marks a strategic expansion in the company’s power transmission portfolio, reinforcing its presence in high-voltage network development and long-term infrastructure contracts.
The project is anticipated to support stronger grid reliability and energy transfer capability in one of India’s fastest-growing regions, contributing to broader efforts to modernise the state’s electrical transmission infrastructure.
