The Tata Power Company Limited (Tata Power) has successfully commissioned two critical 765 kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission corridors in Uttar Pradesh, significantly strengthening the state’s power transmission network and enhancing grid reliability across the northern region.
The newly operational corridors—Mainpuri–Bara spanning 380 circuit kilometres and Mainpuri–Unnao covering 194 circuit kilometres—together extend 574 circuit kilometres. Developed under the South East UP Power Transmission Company Limited (SEUPPTCL) project, these lines form a vital backbone for reliable power flow within Uttar Pradesh and across the northern grid, supporting large-scale power evacuation.
The project, acquired by Resurgent Power Ventures Pte. Ltd., a joint venture led by Tata Power along with ICICI Bank and global investors, is part of the resolution of previously stressed power assets. Once operational, the corridors will enable the evacuation of more than 3,000 MW of thermal power generated within the state, contributing to improved grid stability and advancing Uttar Pradesh’s long-term energy security goals.
Project execution involved complex engineering and large-scale resource deployment. Construction required over 42,000 metric tonnes of tower steel, approximately 6,900 kilometres of conductor stringing, and the completion of more than 100 major crossings, including railway lines, rivers and existing transmission corridors. The transmission lines also pass through forest stretches and were built in strict compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.
Despite these challenges, the project was delivered in line with Tata Power’s benchmarks for operational excellence, quality execution and stringent safety standards, reinforcing the company’s position as a leading transmission infrastructure developer in India.
With the commissioning of these two 765 kV corridors, Tata Power’s operational transmission network now stands at 5,312 circuit kilometres, with an additional 1,997 circuit kilometres under construction. This expanding portfolio highlights the company’s growing role in building and modernising India’s high-voltage transmission infrastructure at a time when enhanced grid capacity is critical to sustaining economic growth.
The Tata Power Company Limited, part of the Tata Group, owns a diversified power portfolio of 16.3 GW spanning the entire power value chain, including renewable and conventional generation, transmission, distribution, trading, storage solutions, and solar cell and module manufacturing. As a key player in India’s clean energy transition, Tata Power has 7.5 GW of clean energy capacity, accounting for 46% of its total generation portfolio. Committed to achieving Net Zero by 2045, the company serves approximately 13 million customers across India through partnerships with public and private entities in the power sector.
