State-owned transmission utility Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has successfully commissioned the transmission system for power evacuation from the Arun-3 Hydropower Project (900 MW) in Nepal, marking a key milestone in cross-border energy infrastructure development.
The project, referred to as “Transmission System for Power Evacuation from Arun-3 (900 MW) HEP, Nepal of M/s SAPDC – Indian Portion,” has been commissioned with effect from September 3, 2023.
The commissioning has been carried out in accordance with Regulation 5(2) of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) Terms and Conditions of Tariff Regulations, 2019. The development also follows the order issued by CERC in Petition No. 210/TT/2024 dated March 10, 2026.
The disclosure was made by the company’s compliance office, confirming the successful commissioning of the transmission infrastructure designed to facilitate power evacuation from the 900 MW Arun-3 hydropower plant in Nepal.
The project forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regional grid connectivity and enhance cross-border electricity trade between India and Nepal. By enabling evacuation of power generated from the Arun-3 hydropower facility, the transmission system is expected to support improved energy exchange and bolster regional power reliability.
