Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has commissioned India’s first 315 MVA, 400/220/33 kV transformer using synthetic ester oil at its Bhiwadi substation in Rajasthan. The project marks a key move toward safer and more environment-friendly power transmission infrastructure.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by PGCIL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. R. K. Tyagi, along with Director (Finance) Shri G. Ravisankar, Director (Operations) Shri Naveen Srivastava, Director (Projects) Shri Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra, Chief Vigilance Officer Shri Naveen Kumar, Independent Director Shri Shiv Tapasya Paswan, and Executive Director NR-I Shri Alok Sharma.
With a capacity of 315 MVA, this is the largest transformer of its kind installed in India in terms of voltage class and rating. The use of synthetic ester oil provides a higher fire point and better biodegradability than conventional mineral oil, improving operational safety and reducing environmental impact.
The transformer was designed and manufactured by Hitachi Energy at its Maneja plant in Vadodara using the company’s global Trafostar platform, and was delivered to PGCIL in July 2025. KRYFS Power Components Limited supplied the transformer tank.
PGCIL said the commissioning of this transformer strengthens its efforts to build reliable, safe and sustainable grid infrastructure in line with India’s green energy goals.
