Octillion Pune electric vehicle battery plant operating fully on solar power generating 545 MWh renewable energy annually

Octillion, a global manufacturer of electric vehicle battery systems, has announced that its Pune-based battery production facility is now operating entirely on solar power. The company confirmed that the rooftop solar plant installed at the site will generate 545 MWh of clean electricity annually, making the unit fully energy self-sufficient.

The Pune plant, which spans nearly 8,200 square metres, manufactures around 3 GWh of battery capacity each year for India’s growing electric mobility sector. Octillion began installing the solar system in June 2024 and completed the transition to 100 percent renewable energy by July 2025.

With this milestone, the Pune unit has become Octillion’s first India facility to operate completely on solar energy. The company stated that the shift not only cuts operational emissions but also aligns with its long-term plan to transition all its Indian manufacturing units to renewable power by 2027.

Company officials highlighted that powering a battery plant, central to clean mobility with clean energy itself reinforces Octillion’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices. The initiative also reflects the broader trend of green transformation across India’s EV supply chain, where manufacturers are increasingly adopting renewable energy solutions to lower their carbon footprint.

Octillion noted that its solar-powered operations in Pune represent a significant step toward cleaner production of EV batteries, supporting India’s push for sustainable industrial growth and environmentally responsible electrification.
