NTPC Limited has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited (GMDC) to explore strategic collaboration for the utilisation of GMDC’s coal and lignite resources, reinforcing India’s energy security and self-reliance goals.
Under the first MoU, the two entities will establish a partnership to utilise coal from GMDC’s coal blocks for power generation at NTPC’s existing and upcoming power stations. The second MoU focuses on exploring coal and lignite gasification and its downstream commercialisation, including the development of pilot projects and syngas utilisation initiatives.
The collaboration is aimed at enhancing the country’s energy security framework, promoting clean coal technologies, and advancing national energy self-reliance.
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Gurdeep Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC, and Roopwant Singh, IAS, Managing Director of GMDC, along with other senior officials from both organisations.
