Ministry of Coal awards three fully explored commercial mining blocks—Pirpainti Barahat, Dhulia North, and Mandakini-B—to DVC under the 13th round of mine auctions with a combined PRC of 49 MTPA.

The Ministry of Coal has successfully completed the 13th round of commercial coal mine auctions, awarding three fully explored blocks through forward bidding held between November 20 and 25, 2025.

The blocks- Pirpainti Barahat and Dhulia North in Jharkhand, and Mandakini-B in Odisha have all been allocated to Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). Together, the three mines carry a cumulative peak rated capacity (PRC) of 49 million tonnes per annum and geological reserves of 3,306.58 million tonnes.

Bidding saw final offers ranging from 5.50% to 12.75% above the reserve prices. According to initial estimates, the awarded blocks are expected to generate annual revenue of approximately Rs 46.2 billion for the government and draw capital investments of around Rs 73.5 billion, supporting coal supply security and boosting regional economic development.

The latest auction round marks another milestone in the government’s ongoing push to increase private-sector participation, improve efficiency in coal mining, and enhance the availability of domestic coal for power and industrial needs.
