The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the investment for the 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh to be developed by SJVN Limited. The project has been cleared at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,614.51 crore, which includes Rs. 13.80 crore as budgetary support from the Government of India for enabling infrastructure. The approval also grants ex-post facto sanction for cumulative expenditure of Rs. 246 crore incurred up to January 2022.

The approved project cost of Rs. 2,614 crore comprises a hard cost of Rs. 2,246.40 crore, along with Interest During Construction (IDC) of Rs. 358.96 crore and Financing Charges (FC) of Rs. 9.15 crore. Revised cost sanctions arising from quantity variations, including additions, alterations, extra items, and time overruns attributable to the developer, will be capped at 10 per cent of the sanctioned cost.

Aligned with the objectives of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the proposed 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project is expected to benefit local suppliers, local enterprises, and MSMEs, while encouraging entrepreneurship opportunities within the country. The project is also aimed at promoting employment generation and socio-economic development in the region, with its implementation expected to create direct and indirect employment for around 4,000 people during the peak construction phase.

SJVN Limited, formerly Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, is a Mini Ratna PSU under the Ministry of Power, focused on hydro, thermal, wind, and solar energy generation.
