India and Nepal have signed a series of cross-border transmission agreements aimed at deepening cooperation in the power sector and enhancing regional energy connectivity.
The new pacts will facilitate the development of additional high-capacity transmission lines between the two countries, ensuring smoother power exchange and grid stability. These projects are expected to play a crucial role in meeting Nepal’s growing electricity export potential and India’s increasing demand for clean energy.
Officials from both nations highlighted that the agreements mark a major step forward in realizing the vision of an integrated South Asian power market. The enhanced cross-border infrastructure will enable the seamless transfer of surplus hydropower from Nepal to India, particularly during peak production seasons.
The initiative builds on the long-standing energy partnership between India and Nepal, which already includes multiple operational transmission links and ongoing hydropower collaborations. With these new agreements, both countries aim to strengthen energy security, attract investments in renewable energy, and promote sustainable regional growth.
