Gujarat’s Energy Minister, Rushikesh Patel, stated on Tuesday that the digital platform Urja Sanvardhanam will play a key role in advanced electricity demand planning and in strengthening the state’s power network, supporting India’s goal of achieving developed nation status by 2047.
An official statement on Tuesday said that, in response to the steadily rising electricity demand in both rural and urban areas of Gujarat, the state government has launched an online monitoring system called ‘Urja Sanvardhanam’ to ensure efficient management and control of the electricity supply. Under this initiative, electricity consumption data is continuously tracked on a daily or periodic basis, enabling power companies to receive timely forecasts and take necessary measures to manage load fluctuations effectively.

Under this initiative, electricity consumption data is continuously tracked on a daily or periodic basis, enabling power companies to receive timely forecasts and take necessary measures to manage load fluctuations effectively.
The portal serves as an interface between DISCOMs, GETCO, and GUVNL, analysing load probability across regional and industrial areas and pinpointing regions experiencing 6% to 12% growth in electricity consumption. Previously, network expansion depended largely on manual inputs and lengthy approval processes, resulting in delays in decision-making.
The platform will classify substations based on load growth. Substations experiencing more than 12% growth will be designated as ‘critical’, while those with growth between 9% and 12% will be classified as ‘very high’ risk. Consequently, the energy department will prioritise improvements in areas where electricity usage has increased by 12% or more.
