Kolkata-based Group Nirmal, a prominent Indian manufacturer of steel wires, aluminium conductors and allied products, has achieved a significant milestone after its conductors produced at the company’s Deulti manufacturing facility received formal approval from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), officials confirmed. This endorsement clears the way for the company’s conductors including ACSR (Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced) and AAC (All Aluminium Conductor) variants to be considered for use in PGCIL’s power transmission infrastructure projects.
Group Nirmal operates multiple manufacturing units across India and has been expanding its presence in the wires and conductors sector for high-voltage transmission applications. The Deulti factory, located in West Bengal, is among the company’s key facilities producing a broad range of conductors used in overhead lines and power distribution networks. With this approval, the conductors from this plant are now eligible to participate in competitive tenders and supply contracts for nationwide grid strengthening and transmission line projects undertaken by PGCIL, India’s central transmission utility.
Conductors such as ACSR and AAC play a critical role in the country’s transmission network. ACSR combines aluminium’s excellent electrical conductivity with a galvanized steel core for mechanical strength, making it suitable for long-distance, high-capacity overhead lines. AAC conductors, made entirely of aluminium, are typically used in lower-load transmission and distribution networks. Compliance with PGCIL’s stringent quality and technical requirements positions Group Nirmal to contribute more significantly to India’s ongoing power infrastructure expansion, which includes projects for grid modernisation, renewable energy evacuation, and rural electrification.
The company has steadily expanded its manufacturing capabilities in recent years, including capacity enhancement for aluminium rods, conductors and related products. Group Nirmal’s product range is designed to meet national standards such as IS 398 for conductor materials, and its facilities are equipped for rigorous quality testing to ensure reliability in demanding transmission environments.
Industry analysts said that vendor approval from PGCIL is a key qualification milestone for conductor manufacturers, as it enables them to participate in high-value infrastructure contracts worth substantial volumes over long project cycles. Such certification also enhances credibility with other utilities and EPC contractors in the power sector.
Group Nirmal has positioned this achievement as part of its broader strategic vision to support India’s electricity transmission ecosystem, aligning with national priorities like grid reliability, indigenous manufacturing, and capacity augmentation. The company’s expanded product portfolio and manufacturing footprint aim to tap into rising demand driven by power sector investments and the transition toward renewable energy integration.
