Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday announced that the Congress government will soon lay the foundation stone for a new 800 MW thermal power plant in Ramagundam, stating that the state cabinet has already approved the project. The announcement was made while he distributed sanction letters for Indiramma housing and land pattas in the region.
Addressing a public meeting in Ramagundam after touring Godavarikhani and the coal belt areas, including Ramagundam Municipal Corporation, Peddapalli and Manthani municipalities in Peddapalli district, Bhatti said the proposed power project would further strengthen the region’s economic and employment base.
He highlighted that coal mines, NTPC, Ramagundam Fertilizers Corporation and the Sripada Yellampalli project initiatives taken up during previous Congress governments had provided employment and economic security to people and farmers. He alleged that the previous BRS government did not bring a single new project to the region during its 10-year tenure, adding that governments should focus on programmes that genuinely benefit people rather than inciting public emotions for political gains.
Stating that the Congress government was working with social responsibility and economic awareness, Bhatti described Singareni Collieries as a “jewel in the crown of Telangana,” noting that it employs over 42,000 regular workers and around 40,000 outsourcing employees. He said protecting the institution was a collective responsibility and added that Singareni, with its unmatched mining expertise, should in future explore rare earth minerals mining to gain global significance and generate more employment.
Bhatti said the state government had announced ₹1 crore accident insurance for Singareni employees to ensure their families do not suffer in the event of accidents, and that this coverage had been extended to employees and workers across all power sector institutions. He also announced ₹1 crore accident insurance for 5.14 lakh regular government employees in the state.
On the Indiramma housing scheme, he said the government is providing a grant of ₹5 lakh for house construction and issuing land pattas to the landless poor, adding that beneficiaries who received sanction letters on Sunday included transgender persons.
Listing welfare measures of the Congress government, Bhatti referred to the distribution of fine rice, 200 units of free electricity, LPG cylinders at ₹500, free electricity to the agriculture sector and free travel for women in RTC buses. He asserted that the government would not indulge in looting or push the state into debt, and said that under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership, the government is maintaining financial discipline to ensure Telangana’s rapid growth and global competitiveness.
He added that the “Indiramma government” is moving forward with the goal of building a $3 trillion economy by 2047.
