Electricity National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), a subsidiary of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), has made significant progress on strengthening the northern power grid by advancing construction of the second circuit on the 220 kV Bac Giang–Lang Son transmission line. The project has now entered its final stage of execution.
The scope of the project includes installing an additional circuit on the existing 220 kV Bac Giang–Lang Son transmission corridor, which spans approximately 101.7 km. Once completed, the second circuit will substantially enhance transmission capacity and improve power supply reliability for Bac Giang, Lang Son and surrounding provinces, particularly during peak demand periods.
As part of the upgrade works, EVNNPT is also expanding the bay section at the 220 kV Bac Giang substation. A new 220 kV bay is being installed to facilitate seamless interconnection with the 220 kV Lang Son substation, ensuring stable and efficient power flow across the network.
In parallel, EVNNPT has completed works related to key 500 kV substations, further reinforcing the backbone of Vietnam’s high-voltage transmission system. These developments are aligned with EVN’s broader strategy to modernise grid infrastructure, support rising electricity demand and integrate new generation sources into the national power system.
With the Bac Giang–Lang Son second circuit nearing completion, EVNNPT aims to place the upgraded line into operation as scheduled, contributing to improved grid resilience, reduced transmission bottlenecks and long-term energy security in northern Vietnam.
